Livigno is well-known as a snow paradise!
Its proximity to the ski areas, the height of the surrounding peaks and longer-lasting snow than in other valleys all make the area of Livigno and this part of Alta Valtellina one of the most popular locations for ski-lovers and snowboarders.
Nordic skiing, a type of skiing requiring the use of well-groomed slopes and narrow skis, is famous in Livigno, especially in the form of cross-country skiing. With 30 km of slope and artificial snow from the Snow Farm, narrow ski-lovers are able to take on the sport from the end of October.
Every year at the opening of the skiing season, La Sgambada takes place – a famous cross-country marathon that attracts fans and athletes from all over the world.
The Livigno ski area has 29 blue slopes, 37 red slopes and 12 black slopes for the most experienced skiers, which are spread out over two areas located on opposite sides of the mountains, by the Mottolino and Carosello 3000 ski lifts, accessible with a single ski pass.
The slopes here slide downwards from a maximum height of almost 3000 metres, for the delight and amusement of anyone wanting to practice classic Alpine skiing.
It’s not for nothing that some of the world’s most famous freestylers train in Livigno, and that it was chosen to host the 2026 Olympics: the reason is that it is one of the few mountain areas with slopes and snowparks specially reserved for freestyle enthusiasts.
Among the most famous, don’t miss out on the Mottolino Snow Park and the picturesque Woodpark, which was developed in the thick of an ancient larch forest!
Are you a fan of off-piste skiing? In Livigno backcountry skiing is even better – and safer! In fact, on the Carosello 3000 two Freeride Approaching Areas have been identified – low-risk areas close to the classic ski slopes, where you can practice freeriding without compromising on safety.
